Driving efficiency in energy industry production through partnership

Jormet Oy, part of NS Group, has manufactured demanding welded and machined steel structures for the energy industry for decades. A partnership that began in 2022 with an international large-engine manufacturer has grown into a significant collaboration, demonstrating how systematic development work delivers tangible results.

Demanding components for large engines

Jormet manufactures large welded steel structures used in marine and power plant diesel engines. The quality and dimensional accuracy requirements for these components are extremely high: every product undergoes a rigorous quality control process before delivery.

The manufactured structures are large assemblies that combine Jormet's core competencies: plate work, welding, and precision machining. Individual products can weigh several tonnes.

The learning curve shows in results

When the partnership began, manufacturing the first products required considerable time during the production ramp-up phase. Through systematic development work, process optimisation, and growing expertise among production personnel, manufacturing times have decreased significantly.

Depending on the product type, production efficiency has improved by 30–60 per cent during the partnership. This has been achieved without any compromise in quality — on the contrary, repeatability and process reliability have improved simultaneously.

A growing partnership

The scope of the collaboration reflects growing trust: in the first year, only individual products were delivered, and by 2024 the volume had multiplied several times over. Increasing order volumes have also enabled investments in production equipment and fixture design, further accelerating and streamlining the manufacturing process.

International competitiveness from Joroinen

This partnership exemplifies how Finnish engineering industry competes in international markets. Jormet's strengths — skilled workforce, modern machinery, and the ability to meet demanding quality requirements — make Joroinen a competitive manufacturing location for global energy industry players.
